Every month or two we here at Soul Arch aim to help out a charity or not-for-profit organisation by donating our skills and services, whether it’s writing a press release or creating an online ad campaign.

As part of our effort to give back to the community, we recently produced a short two-minute video for the Creek to Creek Chamber of Commerce ahead of their 2010 Business Awards, which was held at the Currumbin RSL with around 100 guests attending. (BTW we also sponsored the Product or Service Innovation award at the event, which was won by the very stoked team at Barefoot Barista)

The video served as an introduction to the area the Chamber represents (Palm Beach, Currumbin, Elanora, Tugun, Tallebudgera), and features people from the local business community talking about why the area is unique and what makes it so attractive.  We filmed mini-interviews with Chris Ward from 19th Ave On The Beach Apartments, Gillian Callcott from Palm Beach Directory and Melina North from Bendigo Bank and spliced it with scenic shots and a voice over describing the attractions of the area.
We wanted this video to be useful to Creek to Creek in more ways than one, so once the awards were over the video was re-purposed to be used on the home page of their website. It will be used to promote the area in a positive light year-round and furthers the Creek to Creek Chamber of Commerce’s vision for members of the local businesses to be spokespeople for the community.

If you know of a worthy cause that deserves some assistance in the media/marketing department we’d love to hear from you. Drop us a line!

When we traveled around France and Spain a couple of years back while our eldest son was a toddler, we rented fully self-contained apartments at different legs of the journey. They were so much more comfortable than a hotel room, plus ample room to play and cooking facilities. One place we stayed at in Barcelona stands out as it even had kids toys and high chairs and all the kinds of things we weren’t able to lug over with us on the airplane, but wished we could. I’d found the place online, but nearly hadn’t booked it after I saw a reviews that said it wasn’t that great for kids. It was only after I’d stumbled back on the listing again on another site, this time with a video, which stated it was kid friendly and I could see the kid’s gear stacked up in a corner of a shot that I bothered making an enquiry.

What if I hadn’t found that video? We would have missed out on one of our favorite holiday locations, and they would have missed out on a booking. That’s why holiday property videos are so good if they’re added to a holiday property listing – apart from the fact that if they’re distributed widely online they can help you find a property in the first place, once you view it you’re way more clued up on what the property looks like, the area where it’s located, and what the property’s major features are, giving you confidence to book online.

Take for instance these two holiday property video created for two private Gold Coast holiday rentals – one a Surfer’s Paradise holiday unit, the other a family-sized Burleigh Heads holiday house. These properties both have lots to offer – more than what we were able to fit into these two-three minute holiday videos- but at least people looking for a private holiday rental online could book these properties with confidence after viewing each video. It’s the closest things to having a personal tour!  So if you’re looking to book holiday accommodation online, seek out properties that have video profiles – Google or Youtube are both great starting places for this – and you might just discover your ultimate holiday home away from home.

Webcasting is the way of the future in digital media – it’s a versatile and extremely cost effective way to make live events such as business conferences, special occasions and sports events instantly accessible to thousands of people simultaneously via live streaming over the Internet.
Soul Arch Media’s Gold Coast Video Production team are ahead of the pack when it comes to webcasting – we’ve got the equipment and know-how to make it happen. Along with the social media team at White Echo, Soul Arch Media recently webcast a major event for the Gold Coast Football Club when they unveiled their team’s name, club song and jumper design at a gala function of 600 guests at the Southport Sharks.  As well as filming and webcasting the live event, additional content was created with pre-recorded interviews which were screened on the night. The webcast link was also promoted by through social networking sites, media releases and the GC Suns official website to generate exposure for the club.
This much anticipated evening received a lot of media attention as AFL fans all over the country had been waiting to discover the identity of the league’s 17th official club. AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou spoke at the event and key figures within the club including senior coach Guy McKenna, player Karmichael Hunt and chief executive Travis Auld also took to the stage on the night.
For those who couldn’t attend the event in person, the webcast was the next best thing to being there and the response was massive. 3200 viewers tuned in online to watch the announcement live, and the event has been viewed over 900 times online since then.
The Gold Coast Suns reached a much wider audience through webcasting and an added bonus for them was that it was done extremely cheaply, yet they were in full control of the announcement and could communicate directly with their audience rather than relying on other media to report on the event. Couch potatoes rejoice! Loads of new products have hit the shelves recently that are set to revolutionize the way we watch television by integrating the internet. In Australia in recent months, a flurry of  great new set-top gadgets that allow us to watch online video on our regular TV set have been launched, including T-Box, Fetch TV and more (read all about them in the news here) that all look exciting, but in most cases – T-Box especially – the internet reach is limited to a mere handful of sites.

Meanwhile overseas, Internet giant Google is readying for the launch of Google TV. It’s not due in Australia until 2011, but looks set to truly combine the large screen and high resolution of your television set with the complete freedom and instant accessibility of the entire Internet.
So why the big fuss? At the moment, the majority of your favourite shows and movies can be found online, but small screens and poor quality are a problem. And while cable television and different networks offer a huge variety in viewing options, it can mean endless channel surfing to find a program you want to record on your TiVo, or re-arranging your schedule so you can sit down and watch your favourite show at the allotted time.

Google TV will allow viewers to type in what they’re looking for on their TV screen and Google will find it… within seconds. It’s basically like having the entire Internet at your fingertips, but on your TV screen. It also means that your TV can act as a photo slide show viewer, a gaming console, a music player and more.

Some new model televisions will come with Google TV built into them, or you can get a separate box for the one you already own, but whichever way it works it means you can spend a lot less time trying to find what you want, and a lot more time watching what you want.
Here are Soul Arch we’re eager to see the way in which all these devices will change and simplify (or complicate!) viewing habits and how quickly they will catch on. One thing is for certain though – the common path of producing low quality video for the web will need to change, at least for corporate or commercial video. Blown out, pixelated handy cam footage will look like ants in a snowstorm when blown up full- size on the latest plasma screens, so this new wave of internet TV will no doubt be fruitful for professional online video commercial production companies who are shooting affordable high quality footage. Hey…  That’s us!
